100% Fredonia (Vitis Labrusca)
Beamsville, Ontario
Farming / Fruit:
100% Fredonia from a 100+-year-old vineyard in Beamsville. Own-rooted, dry-farmed. Labrusca varieties remain some of the most resilient and sustainable grapes in the province.
Provincial Politics:
As of January 1, 2026, 100% Ontario-grown and produced wines are taxed equally across categories. This shift significantly reduces the tax burden on hybrid and native varieties, allowing for more accessible pricing and better value retention at the winery and licensee level.
Winemaking:
Whole cluster carbonic maceration (3 weeks). No sulphur added. No additions. No filtering. Blend of free-run and pressed juice.
Vintage Notes:
Earlier pick this year resulted in lower alcohol (7.5% ABV) and higher natural acidity. The profile leans brighter and more lifted, emphasizing red fruit over the more typical darker, earthy expression. Light-bodied with fresh acidity and a slight natural spritz (not sparkling). Chillable.
Serving:
Aperitivo-style. Serve cool. Designed for sharing—easy, low-alcohol, table-friendly. 750ml.
Packaging:
Clear glass growler, produced in Quebec. Chosen to reflect the rustic nature of the wine (helps differentiate it from conventional red wine expectations). 750ml with a twist cap and paper seal.
